A Day at the Little Hive

Our 3 hour program incorporates a wide variety of learning opportunities.
During each school day the children follow the same basic schedule to create consistency and security.
All our classes are mixed age.

Classroom Exploration

After arriving at school, the children are welcomed into their classroom where they can choose from a variety of learning activities. We do weekly themes and the activities and projects of that week reflect the theme. Our classroom is set up to encourage child-driven learning and our staff supports and facilitates the choices of the students. Classroom activities include exploration of literacy, art, writing, math, science, pretend play, and sensory opportunities.

Circle Time

Circle Time is an important part of our day. The students listen to a story and sing our daily welcome song. It helps us build community and practice our communication skills.

Snack Time

Everyone washes their hands and then gathers around our snack tables. Daily snack consists of healthy, kid-friendly food. During this time the children practice table manners and learn about how our food choices make us feel. Sharing a meal provides an excellent opportunity to build community.

Outdoor Exploration

We strive to spend some time outdoors each day. Weather permitting, we explore outside for 45 minutes to 1 hour. We head out year-round and love the simplicity and beauty of our rural playground.
