Here at The Little Hive, we are committed to nurturing children and instilling in them the importance of

Kindness, Independence, and Curiosity.

Our days are filled with playful exploration as we build the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Our developmental curriculum emphasizes play-based learning and encourages inquiry at its very heart. We truly see our environment as an important teacher and feel fortunate to be located in the historic Glenrose Schoolhouse. The open, light-filled building lends itself perfectly to creating a warm, welcoming space in which to learn.

OUR LEARNING DOMAINS

Science

We regularly incorporate the exploration of life, earth, and physical science into our daily schedule. Throughout the year we will examine the human body and animal and plant life cycles as well as investigate the world around us while conducting experiments and developing hypotheses.

Math

Through hands-on investigation, the students will enhance their basic number sense, practice pattern recognition and creation, and develop their concept of one-to-one correspondence. We also emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Literacy

Our literacy program focuses on letter recognition, name recognition, pre-writing skills, and fostering a love of books.  We read daily during circle time and our book shelf is always available for independent or partner reading.

Art

Our art areas provide a variety of multi-media invitations for the students to investigate. Our materials include paints, pastels, crayons, markers, collage supplies, and clay.  We encourage freedom in their art and embrace the mess often created through this exploration. Our art curriculum emphasizes process over product.

Physical

We strive to develop both fine and gross motor skills through active play and exploration. Our large outdoor play space encourages active play and physical movement.  We value the benefit of risky play and provide opportunities for children to challenge themselves and develop self-confidence on our playground. 

Social Emotional

In addition to our focus elements –kindness, independence, and curiosity– our structure and curriculum helps students practice and develop social-emotional skills such as sharing, patience, self-regulation, listening, speaking, and empathy for others.

Bio

Krista is a Spokane native who hopes to instill a life-long love of learning in the tiny people at The Little Hive. The Little Hive is a hybrid of her business and education backgrounds and she loves every day she gets to spend here. Her goal is to create the most positive first school experience for each child attending The Little Hive. When not at work she loves hanging out with her three daughters, exploring creative endeavors, and reading all the books. She truly believes in the importance of kindness, independence, and curiosity and hopes to foster these elements in each of her students.
